>> good morning, everyone, it's 5:00 a.m.. i'm katie marzullo. thanks for joining us. we get the beloit for a few extra hours so that's exciting. we will send it over to meteorologist lisa argen for a check on the forecast. >> good morning. we are looking at live doppler hd. a cold front will be pushing through the bay area this afternoon. that means cooler temperatures for everyone, not only today but all weekend long. in fact, we have a wind advisory that will go into effect tonight. a couple of things going on. starting out with the clear conditions, 40s and 50s. as we go through the noon hour it will still be pleasant numbers in the 50s and 60s. you may notice a few more clouds but the warming will be halted this afternoon in the 60s

around the bay. near 70 inland, but you will notice more clouds and once the cold front sweeps through, the winds kick up. in fact, a wind advisory in some areas. we will detail that and the rest of the seven-day outlook coming up. katie. >> now developing news. panicking chaos at lax after a man opened up fire and shot and killed a tsa officer. we are learning more about the officer and the suspected shooter. 23-year-old paul ciancia. abc7 news reporter lilian kim has more from lax. >> travelers ran for their lives when a gunman shot his way past security at the lax international airport at terminal three. suspect is 23-year-old paul ciancia. he approached a checkpoint and pulled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. he shot and killed one tsa agent and wounded at least three others. >> the first shot went out and

it was a loud bang. i mean, boom! >> everybody panicked. everybody dropped to the ground. >> the shooter seemed to be aiming at tsa officer. a man was holding up his bloody arm. this man barely escaped. >> he was carrying a rifle and he looked at me, and he said tsa? with a question mark. i just shook my head and he kept going. >> some went to the bathrooms and some head ford, its. he hid under a chair. >> i wanted to help them, but i also wanted to cover myself. >> i caught up with him near the rear of the terminal, and that's where an officer-involved shooting occurred. >> the shooter went down wounded. his rifle fell where he did and not a moment too soon. >> there was more than 100 more rounds that literally could have killed everybody in the terminal. >> the terminal has been taken

over by investigators. many walked for miles to get to a ride as the airport was closed to cars for most of the day. >> the driver was trying to get here and he called and said it was impossible. he couldn't get anywhere. so i have been, walking for the past hour. >> the bag he was carrying con continued a one-page handwritten note blasting the tsa. he said his constitutional rights were being violated during tsa searches. >> here's what we know about the officer who was killed. his name is herardo hernandez. he's 39-year-old. he works a behavior detection officer and his job was to identify possible terrorists. he had recently transferred from montana. head of the tsa will visit his family in los angeles today. it's the first time a tsa office every has been killed on duty in the agency's 12 years. more on the shooter. who is he? why did he snap? why was he targeting the tsa? we look into the gun man's

background. >> reporter: in the small town of pennsville, new jersey, paul anthony ciancia's family got a disturbs text. it was troubling that allen cumming was called to the house. he said the text they received suggested the 23-year-old might kill himself. >> our procedure is someone is concerned about a family member, we call that local police department and do a well-being check and that's basically what we did. it came back he wasn't home. >> l. a. p. d. officers won't his home and talked to his roommates. they said the 23-year-old just left but seemed to be fine. >> he was a nice guy, a little loner, introverted, but nothing that i would ever, of expect him to do something like this. >> about the same time chaos was erupting at lax. at the had no idea that a gunman, later identified as ciancia, was shooting up

terminal 3 at lax. the fbi has since joined pennsville police at the ciancia home in new jersey. >> chief, new this family well. what kind of people is this family? >> good people. >> he's a graduate of a delaware high school. former classmates said he kept to himself and may have been bullied. abc7 news. >> the shooting caused massive air traffic trouble across the country. hundreds of flights had to be diverted from lax. some were cancelled and some were delayed. we have more on the inconvenience for travelers. >> reporter: many of these travelers had been stuck at all day. sebastian was coming back from australia. his plane landed at 9:0030 a.m., just minutes after the shooting. >> my brother, who lives in los angeles, texted me on my phone as soon as i landed and said be careful, there's been a shooting there. >> jenne was also traveling to

sfo from australia. she realized something was wrong after she got her baggage. >> the doors closed and there was a hold up at the doors. one of the police or sta said look, there's been an emergency you are staying here. you are safe. >> they kept us in a baggage claim just like this area for five hours. >> the shooting disrupted more than 700 flights across the country. delays and cancellations left passengers stranded or rerouted. at sfo it also meant heightened security. >> out of an abundance. caution, they stepped up routine patrols around the terminals. >> as the evening wore on, terminal 2 began to look like every other friday night and travelers managed to make the best of it. >> on the scheme of things, we can deal with that for a day. it's unfortunate the tsa lost one of theirs, i think the first time of. that's the tough part of the whole day in my opinion. >> reporter: a little

grass with her baby, who was not hurt. he was arraigned last week and after the arraignment his son, jonathan, was involved in a possible hit-and-run with a bicyclist after leaving court. however, yesterday police decided not to charge him. this morning 8 people are recovering after being rushed to a hospital after a car burst into flames in the tunnel yesterday afternoon. this is a picture of moving through the smoky tunnel. he said it was hard to breathe. >> i did not have a scarf. some people had breathing masks like a dust protector mask. >> seven of the eight people taken to the hospital of children. sky 7hd shows medics treating people on highway 24. eastbound lanes were shut down for nearly two hours during the

>> new details this morning in a road wood city apartment complex fire that injured four people. mercury news reports the owners are not allowing residents to go back into the building to get their belongings. they said the building maybe badly damaged and may even be toxic following the fire. they are allowing them to get a few boxes out of the building. the fire appears to be accidental. a veteran trainer at six flags discovery kingdom in vallejo was bitten which a sea lion yesterday. animal bit the trainner the leg. she was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital for a tetanus shot. they can say why the animal bit her and the sea lion is being evaluated. six flags is open this weekend but it's not clear if the sea lion show will go on. abc7 news has obtained the 911 and dispatch take place from the day authorities found an abandoned patient at the care facility.

several calls were main as the two remaining staff members asked for plans to help patients at valley springs man nor. when first responders arrived on the scene, they realized there was a bigger problem. >> we responded to this location. it's -- it's been taken over by the state and there are still clients in the building without any support. looks like the management people left them here. >> we've also learned state workers visited the facility as late at friday afternoon. the department of social services spokesman says he doesn't know whether the state workers were aware whether of residents were only being cared for by a cook and a janitor. the first phase in the billion dollars plan to build a new cargo hub in oakland kicked off yesterday. groundbreaking took place at the former oakland army base which sits adjacent to the port of oakland and that's where the oakland trade and logistics center will be built.

joe sought toe coming in at 41. emeryville looking at quiet conditions. it is cool and the cooling trend will continue for the weekend. in fact, today, two to four degrees of cooling. even cooler tomorrow. gusty winds tonight as a wind advisory goes up about 11:00 tonight. north and east bay hills, strong, gusty, north winds, keeping the stratus out of the bay. it looks like buy the end of the upcoming work week we could see a pattern change and perhaps a little bit of rain coming our way. so the wind advisory tonight through tomorrow morning. then it's going to stay breezy throughout the rest of your sunday. look at all the windy conditions from the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, the santa cruz mountains and the diablo range. a possibility of downed trees and power lines throughout that time period. definitely keep that in mind. high pressure, fair weather maker. it was beautiful yesterday. on the way out. slide to go the east. as it drifts away, it weakens and allows an area of low pressure to the north slip to the south. but the rain will be staying up

in the pacific northwest. we will see the band of clouds push through. but it really isn't until sunday when we drive the cooler air our way and that will allow for the continued cool down for the second half of the weekend. but we will be looking at a pretty nice day. it's not going to be that cool. just cooler than it was. 67 in milpitas. look for 72 in los gatos and 69 in san jose on the peninsula. 69 redwood city, 65 in milbrae. low to mid-60s, the gusty, on-shore winds will return for the afternoon. certainly cooler for the sunset district, san francisco 66 today. up in the north bay. before the winds kick in we will see highs not the low 70s. sonoma 72. look for 70 in vallejo. you head to the east bay and temperatures from the mid-60s hayward. inland still pleasant with temperatures ranging from about 70 degrees in concord. livermore should warm to about 72. it's chilly by the delta.

quarter mile visibility half moon bay and chilly temperatures the north end with 40 santa rosa. oakland low 50s. 44 san ramon volley and 47 livermore. we have a cold front on the way. it will bring a few clouds and colder temperatures today. we will still keep the fog out of the bay but numbers in the 50s and 70s. not dramatic cooling but enough sosa that the numbers are going to come down a little bit today, more so tomorrow. we have a wind advisory going up tonight for gusty north winds. we will detail that for you in a few minutes. katie. >> lisa, thank you. developing news out of l.a. we are learning more about the terrifying shooting at los angeles international airport, including the identities of the shooter and the victim. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, katie. we are certainly seeing a heavier police presence out there. the terminal where the shooting occurred remains closed this morning. things slowly getting back to

normal out here but witnesses describe the scene of sheer chaos as the shooting unfolded friday morning. a quiet morning suddenly plunged into havoc friday. the stampede of terrified travelers when a lone gunman, a 23-year-old paul ciancia, approached a checkpoint and culled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. he shot one tsa officer dead and wounded at least two others. >> the first shot went out, and, i mean, it was a loud bang, i mean, boom! >> a shooting in terminal 3. >> he seemed to be aiming at tsa officers. a man wearing a blue tsa uniform was helped from the scene, holding up his bloody arm. >> i heard gunshots and we all just went down to the ground. >> those who could made a run for the exits while others sought shelter in bathrooms. >> i caught up with him near the

rear of the terminal, and that is where an officer-involved shooting occurred. >> the gunman went down, wound by police gunfire. he was taken to the hospital by ambulance under heavy guard. police say his rifle fell where he did. along with ammunition that might have fueled a bloodbath. >> there were more than 100 more rounds that could have literally killed everybody in that terminal today. >> the tsa officer who died was gerardo i hernandez. he was 39. first tsa agent ever killed in the like of duty. >> a tsa officer got up and went to work this morning and is not going to go home to their family. >> now that officer who was killed was a father of two. he had just transferred here from montana. katie. >> it's just so sad, have we learned anything at this point about the motive, why the gunman did this?

>> well, investigators are still looking into a motive. law enforcement source tell us that the alleged shooter left behind a note that specifically expressed anger and frustration at the tsa. that note also suggested that the alleged shooter intended to die out here in an airport shootout. >> live at los angeles international airport for us this morning. we will check in with you again during the next hour. thank you. other news this morning in the bay area, the big gun show at the cal palace is the first. the show becomes more controversial with yesterday's shooting at lax. we have the story. >> reporter: during the last year crossroads of the west gun shows attracted over 400,000 customers. crossroads of the west is billed as the biggest gun show in the country. this is state property and the state has no problem with the shows. this spring, a state senator

proposed a bill that would have required both san francisco and san mateo supervisors to approve gun shows at the cal palace. both went on record opposing the gun shows. if the bill became law, that would be passed here. legislature passed the bill but governor brown vetoed it. the bill's owner said it was not good for the state. >> it would cost about $1 million to replace the revenue the gun show creates for the state. >> it comes in the shooting of the shooting in los angeles. a gunman fired a rifle killing a tsa agent and wounding several others. now again, the question of bang high-powered weapons. templeton the answer is not gun. >> until we address the underlying issues of mental health, we around going to be able to get a handle on stopping these horrible, tragic mass shootings. >> gun rights advocates argue

that it really boils down to a second amendment issue, pure and simple. congresswoman jackie spear has sponsored several gun buybacks. she's an outspoken advocate for a federal ban on gun shows. >> no one wants to take a gun away from someone who rightfully owns one, but no one needs an assault weapon. >> the show opens and as usual the parking lot will be filled and house will attend. vic lee, abc7 news. a san jose teenager was shot and killed by an officer and he will be remembered today. a federal civil rights lawsuit will be filed monday in san francisco. andy was shot october 22nd while holding a tye gunn that looked like an ak-47 assault rifle. his older brother, anthony, said the family is doing its best to cope, considering all things. >> they are manning in there.

>> happening today, officials in san mateo county will launch an informational campaign to educate menlo park residents about mow seat toes that spread yellow fever. today no illnesses reported from the mosquitoes has been reported, but they have been spotted in menlo park. they will go door-to-door hang out information about ways to prevent the spread of the mosquito. that begins at 9:30. this morning people can swing by city hall to drop off their ballots. the station less have blue canopies to make them easier to see. this weekend they are open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and open from eight to five monday and from seven to eight on tuesday, which is election day.

you for got. we forecast temperatures at the beginning of the month. kind. where we are today, upper 60s in san francisco. by the end of the month we should be in the low 60s. we average anywhere from about 2.2 inches of rain. october, one of the driest on record. we need rain and we've seen as much as 10 inches in the month. temperatures would be pretty rare to hit the 80s and pretty cool as we drop down. we will look for temperatures today to be comfortable. here's the wind advisory that goes up tonight through 7:00 tomorrow. gusts up to 40 miles an hour are likely in the higher elevations of the north bay. the east bay getting windy at the coast as well. keep that had mind. you may want to make sure everything is secured down later on this evening. the cold front will provide the rain along the north coast. this will increase the pressure gradient as that cold front pushes on through. what that means is the gusty winds and the cooler temperatures. before the front moves through,

though, the onshore winds will keep it cooler at our coast. the second half of the weekend featuring still the partly cloudy conditions and the temperatures coming down. so high temperatures today across the state, pretty typical and some warmth in the southland with 80 in los angeles. 86 in palm springs. upper 50s in the northern sierra with 68 in yosemite. back home a few clouds around from time to time. overall still a decent day. 66 downtown. 67 in san mateo. look for 68 palo alto. san jose coming in at 69. a couple 70s out toward our inland east bay. 27 napa and 71 in santa rosa. tomorrow, of course, it's philadelphia in town for the raiders. numbers in the 60s. it will be breezy with partly cloudy conditions. so the accuweather seven-day forecast shows one of the warmest days today but it will be cooler tan what we have experienced, and we set our clocks back. tomorrow looking at 50s and 60s. still below normal on monday and tuesday, despite all the
